“The business of business is people”

So says Herb Kelleher, iconic leader and American billionaire airline businessman and lawyer. It’s a sentiment with which I wholeheartedly concur, particularly in the professional cleaning sector. As everyone within our industry knows, it is people who make the greatest contribution, keep everything running and are integral to commercial success.

So, we need to ensure we reward and champion the dedicated workers in the sector and, importantly, nurture the new talent coming through. This is why we are, once again, the proud sponsor of the Rising Star award at the prestigious European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards.

This esteemed accolade recognises the up-and-coming stars of the cleaning and hygiene sector, identifying individuals who have made a significant impact on the provision of services within their organisation and who are demonstrating potential to shine in the future.

The finalists this year are:

• Mara Fernandes, Principle Cleaning Services
• Lorna McKenna, Derrycourt Cleaning Specialists
• Stuart Emery, Sodexo
• Nicola Williams, Wecovi
• Margarita Kostova, Bidvest Noonan
• Antonio Darnaj, ABM

These candidates have demonstrated that they go above and beyond what is expected of them in order to surpass client expectations and influence excellence in all aspects of service provision. This perfectly reflects what we, at Jangro, strive for day in day out: a passion to deliver excellence and a great customer offering.

We wish the very best of luck to all the finalists and are excited to see who takes the crown on the evening.

Planet Mark certification achieved for the third year in a row!

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve attained Planet Mark certification for three years running! It’s an amazing achievement and shows that we are truly committed to reducing our carbon footprint at head office.

We are so proud of the efforts and steps taken by everyone in the Jangro team to reduce our emissions. Every decision we make is considered from a sustainable angle, how it can help minimise our own impact, as well as helping our depots and customers to make more responsible decisions and meet their own green goals.

At Jangro, we are committed to realising a greener cleaning industry and our Planet Mark certification signifies just one aspect of our efforts to realise a brighter, more environmentally responsible future. Other current initiatives include:

  • Depot and supplier data: we have recently started compiling sustainability data on depots and suppliers so that we can better understand our collective impacts and take action to minimise them.
  • Supply chain impact: prospective suppliers are now being assessed on the sustainability credentials of their products when submitting tenders.
  • Jangro Circular: a scheme in which products, such as used mop buckets, can be recycled by making the connection between the end user and the recycling and
manufacturing companies in our supply chain.
  • ‘Return, Reuse, Recycle’ boxes: These are designed to not only use less ink consumption when printing designs on the box, but when no longer required, they can be returned by customers to their local distributor, repurposed and at the end of their life, recycled into something new.
  • Greener transport: We have recently introduced a ‘bike-to-work’ scheme for our staff and are also looking at solar and electric vehicle options at depots to encourage the switch to renewable energy.
  • NTRL range: Our innovative and award-winning line of products uses a range of probiotic and enzyme-based cleaning agents that mitigate negative effects when
disposed of in the water supply.

Watch out for more news about our sustainable efforts, including our new plant-a-tree scheme!

Planet Mark is a sustainability certification that verifies and measures carbon and social data to reduce emissions and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). For more information and to view our latest Planet Mark Certificate, visit www.planetmark.com/member/jangro/.

New term, new germs

September is upon us – and a new term almost certainly means new germs. Coughs, colds, sickness, and diarrhoea are just some of the common afflictions that do the rounds at this time of year, causing illness and school absences.

It’s not surprising that such infections spread like wildfire amongst children. After all, their immune systems are still maturing, they play and work in close contact with each other, and do not always follow healthy hygiene practices.

So, encouraging good hand hygiene behaviour should be a key factor to consider when equipping or designing washrooms for children. Educating and providing them with the right products to make the activity pleasant rather than a chore, is crucial. Thus helping create a healthier learning environment.

That’s where our innovative and award-winning Jangronauts range can help! Perfect for primary schools, pre-schools, and nurseries, the range features four handwashing heroes and fun messaging on a range of washroom dispenser units. This helps children learn the importance of hand hygiene in an engaging and interactive way.

What’s more, the Jangronaut characters are the stars of the show over on www.jangronauts.co.uk. Here, you’ll find a plethora of educational resources to download,
including puzzles, stories, posters, handwashing certificates, colouring sheets, games, stickers and more! There is also a free, downloadable teachers’ pack available which offers handwashing ideas to support the National Curriculum for EYFS, KS1, and KS2.

Because we are so passionate about helping children learn good hand hygiene from a young age, we offer a choice of two soap dispensers to loan at no cost1, when refills are purchased. This includes the popular Jangronauts BK039 TFX model. With more hand washes than the average 1200ml liquid soap dispenser, this touch-free dispenser automatically releases soap when hands are placed below it, increasing hygiene levels whilst reducing wastage and mess in the washroom.

Congratulations to one of our own first-class team!

Huge conratulations to our very own Tammy Ladner, who, last month, graduated from University of Bolton with a First-Class honours in BSc (Hons) Business Management. She was also awarded the Governors’ Prize for the Highest Final Assessment Academic Achievement.

Juggling work, study and family life isn’t easy, but she has absolutely smashed it! Well done, Tammy! We are all so proud of you. 🎉🎉

As CEO, it is my duty to ensure our staff are trained, encouraged, and empowered to achieve their personal aspirations. Just as Jangro supported me through my own degree, I am thrilled that we have been able to afford the same opportunity to Tammy and support her over the past four and a half years. This qualification, together with her 21 years’ experience at Jangro, has earnt her a promotion too – say hello to our new Operations & Welfare Manager!

This is just one example of how we support our staff to continually advance their professional development. We also use our close links with our local community in Bolton to promote careers in the sector. For instance, we recently collaborated with University of Bolton to give students an insight into the topics involved in the cleaning industry.

As an accredited Living Wage Employer, we are passionate about ensuring our workforce feel valued, are treated fairly, and paid a wage that reflects their hard work and the benefits that they bring to the organisation.
