Top tips for successful spring cleaning in the workplace

After a long winter full of germs, coughs, and colds, a new season is finally upon us so what better time to start your office spring clean? There are two clear business benefits to spring cleaning: Research suggests there is a positive correlation between productivity and a clean and tidy work space; and secondly, fewer days are lost to sickness, due to the reduced risk of disease when working in a hygienically clean work environment. So for a healthy and efficient workforce this season, check out our top tips to tackle the most common germ hot-spots.

Office work-stations
Are often rife with germs – did you know that a typical computer keyboard harbours more bacteria than a toilet seat, and it has also been found that office phones can carry up to 25,000 germs per square inch? Not surprising when you consider how many workers eat ‘al desko’ and nurse coughs and colds during the Winter.

Office kitchens
Are often another hot bed of germs, and here more than anywhere, there can be serious consequences if they are not cleaned effectively. Work surfaces, microwaves, as well as mugs, plates and cutlery all need to be effectively cleaned to avoid infection. Use a good quality all-purpose kitchen cleaner such as Jangro’s Kitchen Cleaner Sanitiser to give the fridge, microwave and work surfaces a good scrub, and keep them hygienically clean.

Freshen up the flooring!
Approximately 80% of the total amount of soil present within a building is brought in via people’s feet. After a season of wet, dirty shoes treading dirt into the flooring, now’s a good time to give them a deep clean. Check our new Floor Pad Guide, which is designed to help choose the correct pad for the floor type and the required job – whether that is stripping, cleaning or polishing. It also includes a handy colour coding system for easy identification.

The washroom facilities
These are probably the area of your office that receive the most attention throughout the year, as they should be cleaned at least twice a week. High standards are required at all times to prevent bugs and germs spreading to other parts of the workplace. Our recently launched toilet cleaner and descaler sachets and washroom cleaner sachets are not only essential to ensure facilities are left sparkling  and hygienically clean, but are also a more environmentally friendly option, reducing the amount of plastic waste.

Poor hand hygiene
A major cause of the spread of illness within an office, so a spring clean is the perfect time to review your handwashing facilities. Dispensers must be accessible and easy to use and dispense pleasant and mild products that are still effective at killing germs in fast contact times. We also encourage better workplace hand hygiene by displaying the Jangro Hand Washing Guide.
