Wrapping up 2020

Wow, what a year it has been! It’s certainly different to any other that we have experienced (in living memory, at least). Coronavirus has made its mark on all walks of life, impacting us all, both personally and professionally.

Whilst many of us can’t wait to close the door on 2020 – for it has been a truly ‘annus horribilis’ – there are positives that we can draw on and take into 2021. Because when it rains, look for rainbows, right?

Talking of rainbows, this year they became a national emblem symbolising our collective thanks to all the healthcare and key workers. Under challenging circumstances, they continued to perform their duties and keep the country running. As cleaning and hygiene became increasingly important, the spotlight was turned to the people responsible for keeping spaces clean and safe.

Previously held in low regard, the role of professional cleaners in society was not only acknowledged, but celebrated. This ‘extraordinary’ role was even paid tribute to in parliament by both the prime minister and the former leader of the opposition; they praised the ‘unsung heroes’ of the public sector who ‘keep us safe’ during the outbreak’.

Going forward into 2021, we need to ensure their important role in society is recognised even after a vaccine has been rolled out and the crisis eases. We need to help create and maintain an atmosphere of respect and appreciation for the work undertaken. Let’s change the perception of their job from one of being a series of mundane tasks to a critical part of any business – and society as a whole.

Hand hygiene has been another hot topic in 2020. This year, awareness of the link between handwashing and health has grown phenomenally. By continuing this habit in 2021 and beyond, we will all benefit from healthier workforces and communities. It was also our ruby anniversary this year – Jangro is 40! As we celebrate this milestone achievement, we’d like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our staff, members, suppliers and all those, who have partnered with us over the past forty years. We’d also like to say a BIG thank you to all the cleaning staff and key workers for their dedication and hard work in what has been a very challenging year.

Finally, on behalf of everyone here at Jangro, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
